"Don't you mean, myVar.toNumber() ?"Depends on the language pal. My example was correct in javascript. That's why typed languages are a PITA. I don't do java, it's against my religion.

And this product is not nearly as good as other commercial tools like blitz basic, or free tools like netlogo, or open source and cross-platform tools like gambas."I would highly recommend this product. It looks like what I always wished I had when I was a kid playing with qbasic."Um, you can still use those 80's style basic languages today, dumbass. Plus they are free. I guess that's why you didn't know about them.
Hey kungPow, I was just going to mention DarkBasic. I haven't used it for nearly a decade (think: DirectX 5), but I have fond memories of it. Game programming is very difficult, but DarkBasic let me setup some very basic 3D scenes and models. I made a pretty cool tank game :)DarkBasic is simple enough for just about anyone. When I used it I only knew VB and DarkBasic was even easier, although there is (was) more math involved.I'm not sure what's happened to DarkBasic these past few years, but it's worth looking at if you're interested in starting game programming.<a class="user" href="http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/">http://darkbasic.thegamecreators.com/</a>
"I figure true understanding half the time and excitement almost every time is more than enough"Good call. That's what's good about KPL I believe. Get kids excited about programming and build their confidence.
Yea, programming languages should count as foreign languages. And for everyone bashing KPL... if you don't like it, don't use it. It isn't for you it is for YOUR KIDS. It is supposed to be easy to use. Sure you could teach them VB or C(I learned C when I started programming) but it would be easier for them to start on something simple and then move up to more complex things later on.
"It is practically impossible to teach good programming style to students that have had prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration."-- Edsger W. Dijkstra, SIGPLAN Notices, Volume 17, Number 5

What about Squeak (<a class="user" href="http://www.squeak.org/)?">http://www.squeak.org/)?</a> I actually used it and seen it in action and it is a very visual programming lannguage
