dailydomainer.com — Former alcohol addict, cocaine abuser and Australian country singer Keith Urban has filed a lawsuit against a US painter (!) of the same name. He claims that the lesser known Keith Urban’s website *KeithUrban.com* infringes trademark and cyber-squatting laws.

The paintings are pretty bad but they're better than anything I can do. I feel pity for him.

This is a slam dunk for the domain owner. Celebrities think they can walk all over people just because of their fame. This time it isn't going to work. I hope the country singer has to pay all the legal fees when it's all said and done.

A couple of things... One has already been brought up - nissan.com. This gentleman registered his last name and never tried to sell anything having to do with autos - he owns a computer company in North Carolina. The other is brucespringsteen.com. Even though Bruce Springsteen sued for the domain name, he lost. It's a fan-run site that does not attempt to make money. (Although, as a fan, I'm surprised he didn't GIVE Springsteen the domain name.)Cybersquatters should be clobbered, but people trying to strong-arm a domain name from someone aren't much better.Shame on Keith Urban.(And shame on the original poster for bringing up the "Former alcohol addict, cocaine abuser" thing. That's irrelevant and iPorthos is a jerk for brining it up.)

There's no way that the musician can/will win that lawsuit... that's f**king rediculousI'm going to sue the guy that owns my name because i'm a web developer and he has a website with my name... idiots... but if the musician wins then I may think about it... :)

This just took cyber law to a whole new ridiculous level. What jurisdiction does anyone have over which Keith Urban is better known. If anything I'd say the one with the trip to rehab and less than flattering news appearances (the singer) should need the other Urban's permission to use any domain name. There are real cyberlaw issues and then there is this.
