huffingtonpost.com — I realized that to be a good Catholic had nothing to do with being a good Republican. As a Catholic, I think Sen. Barack Obama is the best candidate for President of the United States. I say this not despite, but rather because of his nuanced position on abortion.

Big comment, but the link has nothing to do with Obama. I think he does understand that you can not in this country take away people's rights, but that you can work to reduce or eliminate the situation where they will make the wrong choices. Being pro choice does not mean you are pro abortion (or pro killing the public as you say). You know making tings illegal doesn't stop them from happening, educating people and giving them alternatives does !!! Think about some community service instead of laws that let you turn your back on the issue. If you care about the unborn go out in the world and create a viable alternative for young girls and women that will help them raise their children, still earn a respectable wage, etc. etc. You can't legislate your way to heaven!!!

All excellent posts. As a Catholic I also view Obama as Pro-life. Christ said to help the poor, love your neighbor, and then there are the 10 comandments. McCain/Palien care nothing about these.

Here's one Catholic that supports McCainOh, yeah..."The Bible does clearly tell us to care for the least of our brethren,,," Does murdering an unborn child qualify for "caring for the least of our brethren?

"Why, in 12 years of a Republican-controlled Congress (1994-2006), 6 of which with a supposedly pro-life Republican President (2001-2007), has no human life amendment to outlaw abortion come up for a vote? Could it be that the GOP may have some motivating interest in keeping abortion legal indefinitely as an issue to galvanize voters at election time, winning Republicans easy votes?"Very interesting point
