This sounds more like pre-emptive excusemaking, haha.Perhaps they don't understand that the job of a reviewer is to tell people how a product looks and feels and how its usable by them, in an average user type of way?Its not their job to pretend its all there when its not.
This has got the goat of people on both sides of the debate: Some KDE diehards saying "we've explained this, if you don't understand by now, then you're an idiot", and some outsiders saying "well that's just stupid and misleading / KDE4 sucks because KDE4.0 is unpolished".I think the KDE team should realise that there will always be newcomers who will get confused by their naming conventions. Many, if not most people will continue to associated "KDE4" with KDE4.0. It would help if people deeper in the KDE world would start making an effort to refer to something like "the KDE 4 series" instead of just "KDE4".
.. and yet people are using it for their day to day desktop. It's not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be, though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given your last sentence.
"The reason Kubuntu 8.04 won't be an LTS is because KDE/Qt 3.x won't be supported for 3 years".Nonsense. How come other distributors such as Red Hat can support products for 7 years? RHEL5 uses KDE/Qt 3.x and is supported until 2014. Heck, even RHEL2 which uses KDE 2.x is still supported for another 18 months!

Actually, Vista is vastly more usable than KDE4. I can actualy get things done in Vista (as I can in KDE 3.5).

XFCE is great if you've got an older box. But GNOME is better if you have a newer one.

That means you're happy with the former as it is. Not everyone is.
