wservernews.com — You are going to be asked (or already have been) to hook up the iPhone to your network's email system in some way. The problem is that the only protocol the iPhone supports is IMAP and that just does not cut it. The iPhone cannot work like a RIM BlackBerry or Windows Mobile. There is no built-in sync with Outlook that is secure enough.

I view giving up MS Exchange in favor of reliable, standards-based mail servers a major plus to the industry and to corporations in general.

I am SO glad this guy doesn't work in my IT department. "Who needs POP3 and IMAP when you have Exchange... gosh!" It's time to come out from your gray cubicle.

This guy is a great example of IT dinosaurs trying not to become extinct. Wake up. The world moves on, and exchange is not going to be dominant platform forever. The world is moving to open standards. If you don't adapt you will be left behind. The other thing to note is that the iPhone clearly is not targetted towards the business. It will work fine with a lot of business users, but thats clearly not their target market.

Hang on. Does anyone even know that the iPhone doesn't support SSL with POP and IMAP? That seems like an obvious design feature for a device that works on a mobile network. Assuming it does support SSL, wouldn't that really make it MORE secure than Exchange?

'that is secure enough' so it has it, you just dont like it ? Dont think it'll get upgraded ? damn narrow mindedness. get real. fool.
