hosted.ap.org — The Corps of Engineers had argued that it was immune from liability because the channel is part of New Orleans' flood control system. The law says the federal government cannot be sued if something goes wrong with a flood control project such as a levee, reservoir or dam.

I thought the Corps knew the levees were a disaster waiting to happen, and it was the people above them who made the decision not to listen?

when you get insurance on a house that is guaranteed to be under 20ft of water at some point.

i guess you missed that report they do every year showing how conservatives blow away liberals in donating time and money to charity

My carreer is in charity organizations. I see very few conservatives donating time. And the ones that donate money are usually bitching about how much of a shame it is that white people have to help black people. Bury me if you want, but I'm on the ground in a devastated area and I know what is going on.

Actually, its an umbrella organization that participates with the universe of charity works going on in my city. The demographics are not proportinate to America racially (50/50), but they are proportiate politically (50/50). I should see lots of conservatives, but I don't. I'm glad because they seem really put out by having to do charity. Especially the ones from out of town. They are just dripping with contempt. I'll take their help, and I'll take their money. But they are not people who want to help. They are people who are grugingly doing their Christian duty. Or more likely their corporate duty. There are exceptions... I'm sure you would be nice to people and sympathetic to their point of view, but many aren't. I would also suggest that Republicans are WAY more likely to write off charity on thier taxes thereby appearing to be more giving. Also, they have more money to give. And finally, they may give money to causes that are not in the best interests of the American public. Contributing to churches is something that the Feds CAN'T do. And thank goodness because some us (like me) are not Christians. But back to the point: this case will be thrown out and this will make conservatives happy because they don't care about their fellow Americans on the gulf coast. Give to charity all you want, but nothing will change the fact that conservatives feel no sympathy for people they consider to be inferior. ie too dumb not to live in a city the RNC deems unfit. There are a lot of Republicans here, but I don't know why they would vote for McCain when he was with Bush eating cake the day our city flooded due to Federal screwups.
