whedonesque.com — Joss comments to a post on Whedonesque to squash rumors of a Serenity sequel. He's usually cheeky and very cryptic, but this time he spells it out very clearly: "There's no sequel." Apparently a meeting with some fellow writers in London stirred up the imagination of the Browncoats.

@ XalorusThere were only 13 episodes made, 13 episodes is not a full season. Therefore SF ran all the episodes, not "the complete first season" thankyouverymuch.

Hah! This proves it... There's going to be a prequel! Y'know, Mal/Jayne/Wash/etc in College... Then they could throw in some Vampires. (kidding, folks... )

That (there's no sequel in the works) is the way I read it as well. Now, don't think this is fanboy wishful thinking, I'm pretty confident that there won't be a sequel at all, unfortunately. However, all Joss is responding to here is the rumor that there was some super secret work underway on a sequel.Besides, Joss has enough on his plate right now - finishing working on Wonder Woman, Goners, X-Men comics, among other things. I would've been shocked had he found time to work on a Serenity sequel -- or that it would've been able to be kept secret in the first place.

> I still wanted to know about shepherd Book's past though. Damn.Well, the movie doesn't spell it out, but you can read between the lines. We learn that Book knows about operatives (he tells Mal about them mid-way through the film.) At the beginning of the film, it's clear that most people *don't* know about operatives except an elite few. Chances are, Book was an operative himself, did some awful things in his work, and turned to religion. Notice in the film he talks as if he's been in the head of an operative ("The kind of man they send believes hard. Kills without asking why.") The thing from the TV show they didn't address, however, was Inara's past. There are loads of hints about something in the TV shows and they didn't even touch on it at all in the movie.

He said he wasn't working on a sequel, because it was rumored he was doing so in London. It doesn't say "I'm not going to make a sequel."

I can't believe no one has added to this discussion since October.I just watched Serenity for the ... oh about 12th time ... and I cannot believe this great piece of SciFi is not going to have another run. I did not watch Firefly until AFTER Serenity ... and I STILL think the movie was absolutely one of the best SciFi movies of recent years. The original Star Trek was killed off early on and only brought back to life because of fans who screamed for more. Hopefully, Serenity's fans will keep on screaming.

I just keep watching season one and the movie.Just keep hoping to see it reborn. How such an unparalleled script, cast and set could be left like this just kills me.Battlestar, Star trek and SG1 have nothing on firefly.Their writing is B movie at best.Marketing, time slot or some other nonsensical failure doomed this.Because it sure as hell wasn't anything about quality.I've never signed any petition for anything before.Yet I find myself hunting them down still to this day. Please bring it back.
