youtube.com— Jon Stewart takes the mainstream media to town on their ridiculously sensationalistic coverage of the recent break in the JonBenet.

Our entire Entertainment Media Monopoly, because calling it News our Journalism at this point is ludicrous, is PWNED by our right wing neo-fascist government. Hello? President broke the LAW by bypassing the FISA Court?? HELLO AMERIKA?? ARE YOU f**kING LISTENING???? Yeah.. to JON BENET RAMSEY and some gender confused guy from Thailand. Back to your regularly scheduled PRAVDA stylings of FAUX NEWS
The media shows this stuff because it brings in ratings. Like it or not, people eat this stuff up. A dead little white girl who's murderer has been found after 10 years of uncertainty. They connect. Susie and Joe Smith have a baby daughter and they connect to the story and watch it. They relate better to this, than say, 50 people dying in Iraq. It's just how it is. If you're angry about it, you can write a letter, but unless a million other people do the same, it's probably not going to have any effect on what's on the news. It's also not just the U.S. news. I was watching GlobalTV (Canadian) yesterday and the first story on their news was about JonBenet Ramsey's killer being brought over to the states.
I completely disagree with Stewart here. For starters the video wasn't at all funny. Secondly the news media reports what is NEW, hense the name. The JonBenet Ramsey stuff was huge, anyone who lived through the case in 1996 was probably shocked that ten years later they had found someone. Also if he or anyone actually watched the 24/7 news channels he or anyone else would realize that if any breaking news comes out of Iraq or Lebanon they report it. I've been hearing about Lebanon for a month and Iraq for three years, I'd rather here something new.
"I've been hearing about Lebanon for a month and Iraq for three years, I'd rather here something new."Thats exactly the problem! You are treating the news like its a damn show that needs to entertain you! "Damn reruns, I already saw the Iraq episode". Yes the Ramsey thing was big 10 years ago but it was also stupid as hell 10 years ago. "Did the parents do it? Find out on the next episode of the NEWS!"Just for perspective I was trying to remember local events that mirrored the Ramsey thing. Off the top of my head I remembered 3 kids being kidnapped, 1 being thrown from a 10 story building and two being beaten to death by their fathers. You've never heard of these stories because they dont f**king matter!
There is no debating if it is news or not, the issue is whether it should be such a spectacle. It doesn't warrant this kind of attention. It's evident that the pupose of this "news" is to entertain as opposed to inform.
Just a passing point, but bear in mind that the CNN the US see and CNN International are very different things, CNN has become far more senationalised locally to compete with rivals, whilst CNN International is probably the only good alternative to the likes of the BBC on a worldwide scale.
Yeah, the powerful people want us to not think about Iraq for the week that this might continue to get coverage. Who are these people? Why the people that staged the moon landing of course. They also destroyed the twin towers and raised the price of my Big Mac.
If John Stewart is truly a smart man (I always believe the *most* intelligent of us are also very humorous), he wishes that Fox and CNN and their ilk would put him and his show out of business. But, as he has alluded to time and time again... they make it so easy for him to make fun of them.. so why not?

I knew this coverage had gone too far when MSNBC's lead story was the suspect's plane landing.
