publicdecision.com — John McCain has pretty much secured the presidential nomination of the Republican party. the conservatives don't run the republican party. They haven't had control since Reagan. The neo-cons are in charge today. That reads "liberal"/Democrat/socialist.

The evangelicals and the religious extremists are losing their stranglehold on the Republican party. McCain despises them, but he'll continue to play along with them temporaily to get their votes. If he does manage to win in November (unlikely at this point), the first thing he'll do is toss the religious nuts out and turn his back on them. Either way, the far right religious nuts have lost all the clout they had under Bush.
