Here's what we do: Someone start a blog like carlosmenciasteals dot blogspot or typepad or whatever, it's a freebie and supports Joe, so we don't need ads, we send the link to all our friends and digg and reddit the s**t out of it. Make sure we digg it enough so it reaches critical mass. Once we reach it, the media is ours. Ideally the site should be started by a Mexicanamerican guy that hates the fact that Carlos is pretending to be Mexican when he's really a Centralamerican comedy stealing prick. Call MTV Networks, owners of Comedy Central and beg for Carlos' show to get dropped, mail the Gersh Agency and tell them that they are fools and that if anything, any agent worth his salt is about to pick up Rogan.We'll make Rogan a Superstar, that's the only way he'll be able to destroy Mencia. As a community, Rogan needs our support. Besides stealing is stealing and eyeinthesky hates that...I am watching.
Stealing ideas is nothing new... The watch you are using, the soda you are drinking, the pen you are using,the tv you are watching and the car you are driving... those companies "stole" some aspect of it from eachother... and the end result? WE CONSUMERS BENEFIT. Honestly I never heard of Joe or the guy Carlos supposedly stole the jokes from... but for me and others we heard "the joke" when we saw Carlos. Sure that joke mightve been great (hence why he stole it) but if no one knew the originator of the joke it doesnt really matter as long as we get a good laugh out of it! Do you care that you are drinking Pepsi instead of Coke or perhaps Dr.thunder instead of Dr.Pepper? Do you as normal consumers start petitions against Dr.Thunder Company to remove the Dr.pepper copy? The answer is no because for those who want to save some money... why not buy it?! Do we really want one copy of everything and no other alternatives? The joke stealing applies to others things too you know
Joe Rogan is coming off as little more than a junkyard dog who's so desperate for publicity that he's attacking other comedians for stealing material, even though they may not have specifically stolen from him. Even worse, he's doing it in a rather unprofessional manner - and he's reaping the consequences. And all these stories on Digg are doing nothing to maintain any kind of objectivity, for a news site, at any rate...I'm not saying that Carlos Mencia or Dane Cook or anybody else he's called out is guilty or innocent - plagiarism is a very serious offense - but let's be reasonable here. Carlos Mencia has a "successful" sketch comedy show on Comedy Central, Dane Cook just had a movie out and his "Vicious Circle" special DVD is a hot seller - when was the last time Joe Rogan mattered in comedy? And what's more, who knew, before this whole feud of him vs. comics who steal, that Joe Rogan was a comedian? I sure didn't - I only knew him from NewsRadio and Fear Factor. It seems like he's attacking popular comedians to grab the limelight and drag others down.And while we're on the topic of plagiarism, who's to say, in this day and age of rampant observational humor, what exactly is plagiarism? We all witness the same things day in and day out - you think a comedian who first thinks "Hey, if you're gonna build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico to keep all the illegal Mexicans out, who's gonna build it?" has the right to "copyright" that joke? Unless you can prove exactly how Carlos Mencia came to that joke, you're only gonna be running around in all these I-wrote-it-first-no-I-did kind of circles.And let us not forget the simple fact that there is nothing new under the sun - there's hardly any such thing as an original idea anymore. Hell, back in the days of vaudeville and burlesque, comedians all drew from the same pool of about 200 jokes; the difference was just in their delivery and timing.I know nobody cares what I think, but that doesn't stop thousands of other people spouting off their opinions either, so why not me too?...
