Wow, you guys sure take comedy seriously =p. I saw Mencia at the Irvine improv many years ago. 2002 I think? His jokes are very similar to back then and it was all good. He was relatively unknown back then and I haven't heard him for many years till he suddenly gets a show on comedy central. This is the first time i've heard about him joke stealing so i'm particularly interested in this, but at this point it just seems like a whole lot of fanaticism bitching. IF only someone would post something sensible =p
Can anyone actually prove Mencia stole material from anyone? This whole incident is funny to me because my friends and I came to the conlcusion that there is no such thing as an original joke anymore at the tender age of 13. Think about... in the thousands and thousands of years that mankind has been communicating with itself, could there possibly be an original joke at this point? Perhaps the circumstances change, but the core remains the same. A joke about a crappy horse two hundred years ago probably sounds new if you replace 'horse' with 'pinto.' Comedians steal s**t... it happens all the damn time. Most good ones take old jokes and recycle them into new ones, but even that is only a few notches better then just retelling the original joke.Comedy is an ongoing recycling process... they take old jokes from the past and polish them up for the present. If we haven't heard it, then it might as well be a new joke to us right? Look at that Krammer or Crammer guy from Seinfeld... you want to tell me he didn't steal 9/10th of his s**t (or schtick, if you prefer) from Christopher Lloyd on the old tv show 'Taxi?' It's the same freakin' character, except he kicked up the energy level a bit, but to most of my generation that has never seen a single ep of taxi and only know lloyd from the Back to the Future series, it's totally fresh and original. Long story short, comedians are attention whores and that is all there is to it. I know, I used to do standup. Going on stage and kicking comedic ass in front of a room full of people is the perfect drug. Hell, that's probably why so many big comedians turned to drugs... they had to recapture that high someway when they weren't up on stage. There really aren't any gentleman comedians anymore... well maybe Billy Crystal, but he doesn't really do much these days. As far as getting pissed at Mencia for using a different name or changing his background a little bit... seriously, grow up people. 80 percent of the famous people you know of weren't born with the names you know them by. Heck, most of them don't even have the same faces and bodies they were born with either, who who really cares if he goes by Carlos or Ned? At the end of the day, do you really give a s**t? If you do... s**t man, go get a life. If the biggest thing in your world that leaves you with a chapped ass is what someone else puts on their ID well hell, I've got a revolver and a bullet you can borrow. On second though, I want the gun back but you can keep the bullet.
im 15 and i dont listen to stand up that much but new generation teen and kids dont know the old jokes.this is all new for us. funny is determined by the people not by one person so please if u dont like him fine and if u do okay but as some of you dont know comedians steal or update old jokes.mostly all great work is stolen not borrowed. In wikipedia it says-Mencia responded to the accusations while being interviewed on the Tucson, Arizona The Frank Show, stating that Joe Rogan had fabricated the plagiarism charge out of jealousy. On his own website, Mencia argued that the material in question was too generic to be attributed to any single comedian.
It's almost counter -intuitive... ANGRY COMEDIANS. I love it. A new sub-genre. Comedy smack down. Are they arguing about who stile my Anna Nicole Smith jokes yet???I bet a lot of people who didn't know who these guys are now. In a strange way everybody wins.
Anatomy of a hater... This has nothing to do with rogan's television work, yet that's all you focus on. Get your facts straight -- you don't even have a handle on what went down between Rogan & Mencia and the aftermath. Rogan is well set enough (financially and as a career comedian) to absorb the fallout from situations like this, Louis CK is not. get a clue.
Holy s**t!Thanks for the link since obviously GoogleTube doesnt have it posted anymore!I always thought Joe Rogan was an arrogant tool, but he just got another fan. Anyone that will call someone out for stealing other people's hard work is alright with me. iAdios NED Mencia!
Old school comedians stole from each other all the time...except they'd admit it and make a joke out of it and that's what made it funnier, Milton Berle, Jack Benny, George Burns, Bob Hope, et al. Then Lenny Bruce came and pissed off a whole lot of borsct belt comedians, but he rocked. And if you stole his material, he'd just cap you, end of story. I agree with the new sub-genre of a Comedy Smack-down type deal. (h/t to nowtro) Joe Rogan can be the Vince McMahon of the cage match. I'd definitely pay to see that. It's better than watching disingenuous people re-telling tired old crotch jokes with a two drink minimum.
And joe was so good in Newsradio, but after that he went down the toliet as well, let's face it, neither of these two comedians are good in my opinion. What happen to comedy?, it's not even funny anymoreBoth are these comedians been around since the 1990's and there acting more like kids now, this is why american comedy is total s**t now, all of it.

I agree, that pissant totally needs to jump on stage at a Dane Cook performance, be booed, then get tazered by security. That'll teach Dane Cook to not get accused, by sad hacks needing publicity, of being a hack. You outta get into talent management.
Well here it is three months later, I know some people badmouthed your plans, but by God you really went ahead with your heckling plans and destroyed Carlos Mencia. Or maybe you didn't actually go though with your plans to heckle him. That would explain why he still is on TV and stand-up tours. CNN for some reason didn't cover it. Probably because who would give a crap? I'll answer for you, no one.
