techcrunch.com — Skype gave users a way to bypass costly telephone calls by routing them over the internet for free. Jingle Networks, through its 1-800-Free-411 service, is helping to destroy the $8 billion U.S. 411 market by making those calls free as well.

I like their business model.I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I rather listen to a quick advertising instead of paying X cents per phone call. I would rather get a newspaper with ads for free rather than paying for one.Looking at an ad seems like a great deal. And plus, they say that ads are informative! Viva la free 411!

Like the blog.... but I feel this is a bit unnecessary"Ultimately 411 is just another way for people to search for information, and Google will clearly be eyeing this space as the company matures."

The 1 isn't part of the number. You press 1 to let the phone system know you're about to dial an area code.

It was great when they connected you (I think there was a 10 minute limit, more than enough for most of my calls). Really nice when I was out and about on a cell phone and didn't have a pen to write the number down.Still a very very nice service. I've not gotten one what I would call "mainstream" ad though. They are all for free Orlando vacations (aka timeshare scams) or weight loss plans.
