huffingtonpost.com — What we are witnessing right now is what a McCain presidency would be like -- herky jerky, bouncing from crisis to crisis, overreacting at every step. Nothing has changed other than the polls, and that's why it's impossible to take this gamble seriously.

He hasn't voted in the Senate for six months, so now all of a sudden he is a workaholic? Nice try.

I don't have a problem with him canceling Letterman, although I do have a problem with him going on the Today instead. My thing is that if McCain really thought he was needed in negotiations for this bailout and had to cancel his campaign events, including the debate, then he should do that. But he shouldn't cancel the events of everyone else in the campaign who won't be going to Washington this week.Palin can still stump (although I don't think she should be forced to take his spot on the debate), and the staff offices can keep working. The fact that McCain wants to shut down the whole campaign even though he's the only one who has to be AWOL is what makes it clear that it's a stunt and not really the effort to save the economy he claims it is.
