lukewelling.com — We all know that there is a hierarchy of programmers. Ruby programmers look down on everybody. C programmers look down on most.Right at the very bottom are Java programmers who are looked down on by everybody, but also consider themselves superior to all other, thus making Java Programmers equivalent to the Erotic Furries in the Geek Hierarchy.

I get it, the more OO a language, the lower it is.

Ok, sorry, I must have taken it in the wrong way. I fully agree that people should learn higher-level languages later. Teach them pseudo-code, then let them play with a language like C or even assembly, then when the grasp that give them the languages that let you write executable pseudo-code.I suppose the order may not be important, but like you said they shouldn't rely on something higher level as a crutch. The last thing we need are grads who can't even code in C.

I say the only inferior programmers are those that fall back on hierarchies like that. Ultimately its all about the machine- how you get your idea to the machine code is up to you. You could know c++ syntax so well you mumble it in your sleep, but, if you're boring and ingeniuine you might as well go join "those who insist HTML is a programing language."The language is just a tool- much like a guitar or hammer. You may have a custom-made warmouth with Brazilian wood, or the top-notch black-and-Decker-hammer but you won't be the next Segovia or Bob Vila. Anyway, those are my two cents.
