Yet another confirmation that Japan is TOTALLY AWESOME!!!I am grateful every day that our world has a Japan on it. (Japan definitely has some big demerits on its score card from WW2 and earlier atrocities, but every nation has its sins if you dial the clock back far enough in to the past. As far as I'm concerned, Japan began its new era of awesomeness the day they agreed to terms of surrender in WW2. I think that Japan has long since been at the frontier of mankind, culturally and technologically. I think my fantasy of human-level A.I. and advanced human prosthetics will be realized first not by America, but by Japan. But, don't misunderstand me, I think America is a source of a lot of innovation and development, too, and I hope for the best here. I just wish our culture would absorb the better parts of Japanese culture, such as a general respect for one's fellow human beings, and a significant drive to solve problems (often with a spirit of collaboration rather than competition), and a tendency toward peace and a desire for harmony. I know that anything can be taken to an unhealthy extreme, such as people becoming suicidal over losing their jobs or through some other "shameful" event, or people being overwhelmed or overly constrained by rigid rules of social behavior. But, I still wish our society were more like Japanese society, and I can only think of a few lessons the Japanese might learn from our own culture...)
