in.youtube.com — To him, it's nothing strange, but will you find anyone like him in the U.S.? Probably not. He isn't one who earns $1 and then makes millions in company stock and other bonuses. He's cut back on other company perks as well during these tough economic times.

Because he used the term "Japs". Ridiculous that I'm getting dugg down... imagine what would have happened if he would have used *gasp* the term "n-gger"?! You guys would have had a field day, but I guess since it's those ol' lovable Japanese people it's ok to use derogatory terms to describe them.

I wish this was not such a special occasion but rather a frequent one. I think others should learn from him. Cheapo

It's actually is pretty normal for him - the difference in salary between a regular office worker and a CEO is very small, most times no more than an equivalent of 20,000-60,000 USD. Most people in Japan rent apartments - the ones who own houses are either quite lucky, already rich, or they have a higher up position such as owner of a small company, or a position such as high management level, in which case they receive a house from the company. That of course doesn't mean his cuts on his own salary and company perks are any small matter - to give it up willingly with little or no prompting is an honorable move - one that his company and co-workers will appreciate, and sets a great example of being humble and mindful of everyone's economic problems during these hard times. Our big company CEOs here in America could learn from this - in fact, it should be a big hint by now.
