gamespot.com— The Seatle Police have decided that Jack's problems with Penny Arcade may be civil issues, but are not criminal in nature

When the whole Jack thing broke, I was reading some forum where a guy claimed he was the son of the pastor of Jack's former church. No evidence of course, but the guy claimed that due to some kind of series of events, Jack got banned from that particular church. This was many years ago, of course.Naturally, take this like anything else you read on the internet, with a heaping bowl of salt. Nevertheless it was a pretty funny story.
Come on... who could actually read that headline as everyone is saying? I had no notions that he was actually shot by reading the headline. And I whole-heartedly agree with 5blocksfree.Many people who are blasting Jack don't even know the entire story or are under the age of 18.While I don't agree with many of his stances, his trivial "research" and treatment of gamers in general, I do believe that mature games should NOT be played by minors. But, unlike Jack, I think that there are better alternatives to federal legislation and outright banning of video games to make sure that the media is not available to minors. There is a place for mature game content as many of us who grew up with 2600's are now in our 30's and we like to have something with a little more mature subject matter (not all of us, but some). To think that gaming is only something for children to do is completely mistaken.
I think any article with "Jack Thompson" in it will make the front page, no questions asked. Could be "Jack Thompson Takes a Dump"; +1280 diggs. +1000 extra if Albertpacino submitted it.
While I will completely agree that mature games do not belong in the hands of minors I think Jack Thompson needs to stop blaming video game companies and the government for something that is clearly in the hands of the parents. This often seems like another case of parents wanting their children to be raised by the government instead of having to take a little personal responsibility. If more of us were to argue with his points but do so without threatening to kill him or claiming or desire to see him dead we would probably get a lot more headway. Love him or hate him, Jack Thompson knows how to play the victim and all of these threats just serve to prove his point to the general public. Also, please do us all a favor and don't throw Jack in with Christians. K? thanks! :)
