gamepolitics.livejournal.com — GamePolitics has confirmed with her staff that Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco signed HB1381 into law last night. Under terms of the legislation, it takes effect immediately. The bill defines violent video games as "harmful to minors" in much the same way as pornography.

You know, this law isn't entirely without merit. Young children really don't need to be playing overly violent video games. Eight year olds don't need to be stealing cars and shooting hookers.Edit: Waiiit a sec, this essentially restrics a bunch of M games from being sold to ALL minors? Meaning anyone under 18? Goddamn, that's just ludicrous. The problem is that Jack Thompson is an absolute douchebag, and I want to see him fail no matter what.

Come to NYC and take a walk, some night, around the Lower East Side projects, or in the Bedford-Styvesant section of Brooklyn. You can LET parents, all you want, but MANY just will NOT do any kind of decent parenting. It is indeed a sad day when the government tries to step in... but the original problem is the general collapse of our whole society -- helped enormously by overpopulation, and ignorance, and the general supression of the poor people. So you have kids growning up with no parenting, and being reared by the profit-making motives of those who create TV, movies, games, and every other industry that targets the young to separate them from their money.

The thing is, it's not the government's place to say what children should see or not see. That's the job of the parents.

Just give it a couple of years, and everyone who wants to get rid of videogames or net neutrality will be given the finger and the F-bomb, and the world will be a better, saner place.

That'll show 'em that violent videogames don't instill over-the-top actions: an uprising. What we need to do is what we did with pirating stuff (not that i do it....>): ignore it and stay the course.

hey, jerkoff, Left/Right-wings have NOTHING to do with this...

The guys at Penny Arcade had it out with good old Jack pretty bad a while ago. It got all legal but the funniest thing they did was to donate $10K to a video game addiction place I think it was in Jack's name and called him out to put his money where is mouth is. The link to the comic string should be below, It continues about 5 times through the story.http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/02/21
