blogs.zdnet.com — "I really couldn't believe the tip a reader sent in that Microsoft's Zune MP3 player would be incompatible with Windows Vista," writes veteran Microsoft follower Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet. "But on November 14, Microsoft rolled out the Zune player, which doesn't work with Vista."

Vista isn't released yet, and I'm sure someone will find a workaround for it anyway.Get over it...I like my Zune, Its sleek, small and does what it says it does...I'm using vista on my laptop, And while I wish that the Zune would be recognized as an external storage device. I can live without VistaxZune for a month or so.I have more faith in Microsoft these past couple years than I have in the past, dont let me down Steve/Bill...

I just don't understand why people like sync software anyway. Itunes is crap with a georgous collection of music and windows media is more crappy. I mean.. the best way to manage what's on your mp3 player still stay by organize folder the UMS way. I really don't care if windows media can't handle it, or even if the zune market place doesn't work. Just buy the music somewhere else, plug the zune in, regonize as a removable disk and that's it, ready to GO !

Actually the current iPods are compatible with Leopard, which of course comes with iTunes...Vista would be compatible too if they had bothered to use WMP11 to manage songs on the device instead of custom software that had to be ported or altered to do different OS checks.

Wait so.... there are things that are INCOMPATIBLE with UNFINISHED software!? NO WAI!Seriously people, Vista is still in Beta right? Why is the fact that it's "incompatible" surprising? You don't think they'll fix it when they have the official release ready? Damn.No I didn't RTFA, and I'm not going to. I'm basing this on the topic title + description alone. Which sucks BTW, it should at least say "(currently) incompatible".... as such, buried for stupid.Bury me, I don't care.

Guy's you don't really believe this crap? Vista will damn sure support zune when it is released. Only a MORON thinks this is true. I have noticed a lot of morons on digg. I guess you can never get away from stupid people.

Not to worry fan boys... I'm sure it will be compatible with the new Novell-brought to you by Microsoft-Linux. That's the solution I'm counting on...;-)

@repruhsent:First of all, the mp3 format is more proprietary crap that you can't even legally use on linux in the US (and *only* in the US.... "zzzzzzziip, *schlob*"). There are linux distros that have paid the blood money for you, but it isn't libre (not that I imagine you give a crap about Open Source ideology).Secondly, and more importantly, can you plug your iPod into any arbitrary computer and dump the songs off of it? Could you do it with a thumb drive? See the difference? Enjoy your kool-aid, asshat.

@superkendall:I know you can use an iPod with linux. I've set up two laptops for an 11 year old and a 13 year old with Ubuntu, and they are jamming away with their iPods, both with Amorok and iTunes. And, simultaneously, an iPod absolutely limits what you can do with your music, whatever platform you use it with. You've just decided you like this particular gilded cage so much you aren't willing to admit you're in it. Enjoy.
