rabble.ca — Another federal election. Another train wreck for democracy. We have seen it all before. The only question is whether we learned anything new this time. As Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.”

Great article! We definitely need electoral reform in Canada.

Only thing I would add to what is being said is that there are more systems than these articles promote. For me, vote splitting and people voting against what they hate the most rather than for what they want the most is the greatest bug in the system. This means that I am also a supporter of Single Transferable Vote, even in single member districts. On the other hand, I don't think Canadians will ever approve of a system that seeks to be proportional beyond provincial boundaries. Regional parties can't be wished away by calculating Canada-wide.Fair Vote Canada supporter and donor since the beginning. http://www.flora.ca

Great article, reform is definetly needed and the most important first step is the referendum in BC on May 12, 2009. If you live in BC, get involved and make sure you vote. If you are a UBC student in particular we need your help getting the campus riled up about this, check it out http://fairvoteubc.wordpress.com

I just spent some time watching the swearing in of the new Cabinet. Here are some notables to further draw attention to the issue of Electoral reform.Steven Fletcher is the newly appointed Minister of Democratic ReformJim Prentice is the Leader of the Government Ops Committee, according to the commentators on CTV news, this committee is responsible for what the government actions and in what priority it is given.Jay Hill - Leader of Government in the HouseJohn Baird - his new portfolio is unrelated but again commentators indicate he has a keen interest on the Prime Minister's job in the future. Please direct your e-mails, letters and petitions to these people. They are some of key players in the current Gov't!
