The regions are different this time around anyway. It mostly sucks for Europeans trying to get American/Canadian disks.Japan is in the same region as America I think (for Blu-ray) so the big complainers, the Japanimation fans aren't going to have as much to gripe about. It's better this time around, but if you live in Europe then it still sucks.

I'm sure the Blu-Ray drive will be an optional add-on, exactly as is the case now with the HD DVD drive.

if you own a HD-DVD player and have linux you can create a HD movie. The player will play a HD mpeg2 stream from a standarddvd. One problem.. I was only able to get like 20 minutes on a disc. I'm sure I can fit 30 minutes if I try hard enough.Toshiba should open source the format.heck.. since this works I can use the hd-dvd for home movies.

No HD-DVD did not have a chance. Toshiba was pretty much alone on the format while most manufactures were already members of the BDA. Since the BDA came before HD-DVD. Blu-ray out sold HD-DVD all through 2007 at least 2:1.

Just saw at <a class="user" href="http://www.crazytowndeals.com">http://www.crazytowndeals.com</a> that apparently the xbox 360 hd player is now $49.99 online and in store at kmart lol. Then again not bad price considering you get those 5 free movies after rebate + 2 in the box eh?

So two companies came up with products that were basically "high capacity dvds", one's name sounded cooler than the other's and their marketing strategy was better. But hey, all they are, are high-capacity storage media. Hell in 2003 China invented a 24GB DVD! <a class="user" href="http://news.zdnet.co.uk/emergingtech/0,1000000183,39117430,00.htm">http://news.zdnet.co.uk/emergingtech/0,1000000183, ...</a>

Well good for Sony. I'm glad that they finally pulled something off in all of their years of failing with formats. <a class="user" href="http://gym.in.ua">http://gym.in.ua</a><a class="user" href="http://www.blog-o-kino.com">http://www.blog-o-kino.com</a>'m a bit disappointed as I only recently bought an HD-DVD drive for my 360<a class="user" href="http://www.autonovosti.com.ua">http://www.autonovosti.com.ua</a>They'll be back, "it's just a flesh wound
