I do not smoke weed nor care terribly about the issue. My personal view is that anything that grows in the Earth should be legal - but haven't cared too much about the issue as it doesn't really pertain to me.Having said that, I loved reading your well reasoned and personal thoughts on this. You make a great case on the weed vs. alcohol argument.
Mr Kline, You might call Dr Ashtari over at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and learn about his neuroimaging studies of pot smoker"s brains. Marijuana seems to cause damage in the same area as schizophrenia. Legalization risks millions of brain injured people sitting around . Don't we already have enough in Congress?
Indica & Sativa roughly have the same effect, and the distinction between the two should be discussed between marijuana enthusiasts/aficionados. There's no reason to inform the public or politicians about the difference between strains. I think we should be focusing on other factors such as medical use, incomparable laws between weed and alcohol/cigs, prosecuting/jailing non-violent "criminals," wasting billions on the drug war, not collecting millions through taxing and regulating, reducing drug cartel violence in Mexico and general drug violence in the US, not forcing potheads to go through shady channels/drug dealers to get weed (which also puts pot smokers around harmful drugs), the lack of freedom we truly have as Americans if we can't ingest or smoke a plant that grows naturally in our back yards, and other stuff im forgetting right now because i smoked a fatty of some crazy looking white widow
Great post I completely agree with you. Think of all the small businesses or retail venues that wold prop up to distribute marijuana, or the new factories creating marijuana candy or brownies, the list goes on and on. This money could go a long way to helping out the massive budget deficit that we are facing in this country.
Seriously? TIME magazine reports on it and you're still going "dumb potheads are behind this"?Does Jesus have to come riding down on a pterodactyl with the ghost of Al Capone and the head of the AMA to tell you that prohibition is a horrible idea that causes way more problems than it ever solved? Seriously, what would it take?

I would have to say Obama has been smoking his brains out considering the crap he keeps coming up with as far as the direction our country should go.

As TheNik says, driving high/operating machinery high can enhance performance due to things like paranoia and enhanced awareness.
