haaretz.com — The ground invasion was preceded by large-scale artillery shelling from around 4 P.M., intended to "soften" the targets as artillery batteries deployed along the Strip in recent days began bombarding Hamas targets and open areas near the border. Hundreds of shells were fired, including cluster bombs aimed at open areas.

DON'T PREJUDICE ME BEFORE YOU'LL READ THIS COMMENT THROUGH.I'd just like to clarify two very important points in this broad argument, that I think sort of got lost in all this mess.what would you think France will do if it was to be bombed by Spain? France would declare war.OK OK, I know were not talking about a State Vs State situation here... The Gaza strip is controlled by what some would call a freedom-fighter organization and some would call a terrorist organization - This has no importance in my argument though. You see, a state serves it's people, in this case, Israel HAS to defend it's citizens (note that I don't talk about HOW it should do that), think reasonably, should a state ignore that it's citizen's are threatened? We can conclude that Israel has a right to defend itself. Period. The question is how.But do remember that Israel would very much like to avoid genocide, as a free state.I know Israel isn't running the most careful of operations, but there are about 500 (?) (Do ask yourself how many of those are militants) people killed in Gaza - which is a very poor way to start a genocide of 1,000,000 people.Maybe Israel is doing it sub-consciously, or maybe some ISRAELIS (not Israel) support the killing of all Palestinians, but remember the fact that there is no plan to exterminate Palestinians, think sensibly, why would there be one? Note: I'm NOT saying that Israel responds accordingly to the threats, and I'm NOT saying that Palestinians are not being killed /maltreated. I'm just pointing out that Israel has a right to defend itself (I'm not saying how) and there is no evil plan to exterminate all Palestinians.

got curious and... wow... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_bombsIsrael used cluster bombs in Lebanon in 1978 and in the 1980s. Those weapons used more than two decades ago by Israel continue to affect Lebanon. During the 2006 war in Lebanon Israel dropped around 1,800 cluster bombs on Hezbollah-controlled areas...cluster bombs pose a particular threat to civilians for two reasons: they have a wide area of effect, and they have consistently left behind a large number of unexploded bomblets. The unexploded bomblets remain dangerous for decades after the end of a conflict.

lol, bat yeor is propaganda plain and simple. jewish communities thriving in muslim lands for centuries is a fact. Arabs were always generous with you, the final straw being accepting the immigration of over a million refugees that stabbed them in the back the first chance they got.

Israel was created by terrorism.... the Jews that wanted Israel to exist brought in terrorism (King David Hotel, etc.) And now we have a US funded terrorist nation that our mainstream media proclaims is in the right... AND has God on its side !!! - I Am Disgusted...

98% of cluster bomb casualties are civilians. Roughly 40% are children. So far, 98 countries have signed the 2008 Convention of Cluster Munitions to ban the use, production and transfer of cluster bombs. The United States, with stockpiles of millions of cluster bombs, has not.Weapons that harm civilians almost exclusively cannot be justified. Yet they have continued to be used by countries including Israel, Russia, Georgia and the U.S. in the past decade.Tell President Obama to ban these gruesome weapons and sign the Convention on Cluster Munitions today.http://tinyurl.com/banclusterbombs
