macenstein.com — So why are these shows huge hits on iTunes at $1.99 an episode when many of these shows can?t attract viewers for FREE on broadcast TV? Simple. Younger viewers, college students, largely, are finding iTunes? ?On-Demand? style of television viewing fits their hectic schedule better than appointment TV

"Is BitTorrent changing the way 20-somethings watch TV?"/fixed
sephiroth4Apr 5, 2007
no, but the Internets has. Less time is on the TV on the Internets. TVs are for games only if one doesn't have a projector or video on on the computer(s).

why do you even pay for cable and a dvr subscription then? for the 5-10% of shows you cant get? what a waste of money. also you dont want to take a half hour out of your day to watch "colbert"? so its better to wait untill its available online and then wait for it to download instead of setting up your dvr to record it as its airing? you dont make any sense.

TiVo has had a lot more impact than iTunes, in terms of the widespread shift towards on-demand.

@donCarcharoit would be EZ for me to tell you where I get my TV torrents, but the powers that be would just EF that NETwork up. Its like some king of .ORGanization is conspiring against it. The period was a typo...really.

This is exactly what Apple wanted. Change the ways of a generation and earn sky high profits. Even though DVRs, TiVO, and BitTorrent are changing how younger people watch their TV I believe that news corporations putting their shows online is changing how young people watch their TV even more. Most college students are not tech-savvy and can't afford iTunes shows but they want to be able to watch shows on their own time. TV shows on ABC are very accessible to the non tech-savvy college student and are very easy to watch. Apple may have some immediate success but I think they will see even more success in the long term when they reduce prices and increase quality.

From the article...> "I’ve gotten used to watching shows on the tiny screen in bed or > even walking between classes. It’s pretty cool.”Sorry bro..it's not cool. It's lame. Small sucks. You could be watching shows on a 50" HDTV! Where's all the HD content for AppleTV?

It changes this 30 somethings habits, but when I was 20 something there would be no way I'd be spending $2.00 a TV show for something I probably watch once, I didn't have the income for it, that was spent on beer.
