bradgarland.net— Is this the end to the 2nd most used music download service? Both allofmp3.com and alltunes.com are no longer pulling up their address. Was it too good to be true? Check it out...

"allofmp3 legal in russian only because there is no RIAA. There is an organization which mostly supports local musiciants, as i know allofmp3 pays them some fee only for russian music, but not for american or european, and i think it's not fully legal to sell this kind of music...disclaimer: i'm also from russia."I'm not a lawyer, or a russian, and especially not a russian lawyer, but the way I understood it is that they have a broadcast license, which they pay the Russian gov't for. In Russia if you have a broadcast license you can broadcast whatever music you like to whomever wants to listen.AllofMP3 creates a unique file for each downloader and argues that they are broadcasting that file, one time, to a single listner. They are not offering the same file for download repeatedly, so they aren't selling copies. It's got them by the skin of their teeth, which is enough. Good for them I say.
I tried ordering an album Friday night using alltunes. I was able to search and find the album but when I tried to buy the album, alltunes said (after some waiting) that ordering wasn't available at this time. I left alltunes up overnight and Saturday morning, alltunes had downloaded my songs and deducted the money from my balance.
No problems here. Catalogue updates download like normal. Must be a server upgrade. Not surprising, considering the insane traffic that the server has to withstand.
