latimesblogs.latimes.com — Even a few years ago the word ?blog? inspired that peculiar mix of derision and dismissal that seems to haunt new media innovations long after they?re proven. A blogger was a lonely, pajama-clad person in a dark room, typing out banal musings he mistook for interesting ones, to be read by a handful of friends or strangers if they were read at all.

I think blanket-labeling social networks as narcissistic is just cynical.Sure there are narcissists on Facebook and Twitter, and of course these services likely appeal to narcissists, and sometimes ordinary people can express narcissistic behavior on Facebook. But I *enjoy* taking a minute or two out of my day to see what my friends are up to on my Facebook feed - whether it involves me or not - the stories and photos of my friends and family have much more meaning to me than news of the world at large, and its a great way to keep in touch even if you're at work or live far from them.I have many friends on Facebook who are active fb posters, and some of them are narcissists, but some definitely are not, and I enjoy keeping in touch with them through Facebook. Some of my best friends are openly narcissistic, but they're some of my favorite friends. Don't confuse narcissism with obnoxiousness. Narcissism can be charming (Alec Baldwin & Charlie Sheen built their careers around that premise)

People need to get over the stupid idea that twitter is all about what you're doing at that freaking moment. It's not meant to be used for every little thing and if anyone is using twitter like that, they're just being stupid.
