dailygalaxy.com — Increasingly, advocates of space exploration believe leaving the planet is the natural next step of human evolution. They hope this will lead to a shift in human consciousness from an earth-centered frame of reference to one centered on the solar system and, eventually, the entire galaxy.

Sounds like bogus pseudo-science to me...

There are more important reasons to keep developing space exploration than just "reaching nirvana" or whatever pipe dream gives 1st acceleration then lack of gravity. Is not expanding our conciousness, but our knowledge, and, of course, our survival.

Oddly, I feel as though I've felt the exact same phenomenon described in this article. Obviously, I haven't been to space and so I'm sure that the astro/cosmonauts have had a far more profound experience than I have. However, I do have a large background in the physics of the universe, and after a while you start to contemplate literally everything in that frame of reference, since the fundamental equations of existence really do explain everything. When a person starts to think about their life relative to the vastness that is time and space, it's easy to be overwhelmed with the frailness which is inherent to our human state, but when you start to really think about what came before you and what will inevitably come after you, you realize that everything truly is interconnected in this universe. From galactic bodies down to the tiniest fragments of matter, the full web of life/existence comes into focus. By accepting our tiny roles in this vast universe as an integral part of this web, the true meaning of life starts to shine through.Be good to your fellow humans, and they will be good to you, that much has been known since the beginning of our race. Be good to the world, our one true ancestor, and the world will be good to you, it's the logical next step. And that's what gets me to sleep at night :-)
