newsfactor.com — Recently, Apple was the focus of a British newspaper's investigation into the conditions of the Chinese factory where iPods are made. The story alleged that workers were paid very little and forced to work 15-hour shifts to assemble Apple's wildly popular MP3 players.

Why do you think so many things are manufactured in China. Is it because of the the way employees are paid 10 times more than everyone else and therefore work a lot harder ... no, its because of cheap labour (who will also work every hour possible). This is a general problem, not a problem of a particular manufacturer. Change this and you will effect China as a whole (and all related companies around the world). If you think this is an Apple/ipod problem, your crazy. Its bigger than that. They are not even picking on Apple, but iPods ... why ... cos it gets more press.

Because you have children who must eat. You have no other way to even make minimum wage, because you live out in the middle of nowhere, and this is the best work you can get. This is the most unintellgent question I have seen. You know there were, and probably still are sweatshops in America? Immigrants poured into New York by the thousands, and when supply for really cheap labor goes up, employers don't have to treat their employees so nice, because they can pull 5 more just like you off the street who would love your job. That is why they work there.

If you think there is such a thing as a "good company" your an idiot, corporations are amoral, the main objective is to make money for the shareholder. Most of those individuals behind the core operations of said company objectives are evil, sociopath f**kers (you dont become CEO,COO, VP , etc being a nice person). Philanthropy is a way to garner public favor and increase sales of shares, plus you get sweet kickbacks from the government. Any company that is out to make a profit (which is every one)does not cares about you, your family, the trees in the amazon , baby sea, curing cancer, reducing greenhouse gases or poor Indonesian slave labors. Making money is the only agenda they have everything peripheral to that is just another way to continue making money.

"suppose that people see Apple and the people that use their products and automatically assume that they're an incredibly environmentally sensitive company that wouldn't discomfort a single human or animal soul to get their product to market."Tell that to the Apple fankids! LoL! Thats why this story is such a big deal. For years Apple fans tried to make that company out to be the posterboy of all that is good, just, and holy. They still do. It the whole "High Horse" effect. They got knocked off of one, now they are spinning like mad to point fingers at all the other companies as being just as evil.

You think Apple's the one that's pointing fingers??

Gotta love all the iTunes adverts on that roughlydrafted.com page. Wonder who they're affiliated with? Hmmm.

It's probably unethical to buy anything made in China. That being said, I learn a long time ago that ethics really don't matter cause you can always call the other guy a hypocrite.
