there are things like mobile uploads of photos or posting of notes that can't be done mobile-y via email, only smsironically, the number you are supposed to send MMS to is photos@facebook.com ... an email address I tried emailing, you get an autoresponse saying to use MMS (which is what? 50 cents each?)flickr allows posting via email, but my friends are more likely to look at my facebook page

I wouldn't mind the Virb approach with CSS sheets, and allowing you to remove the customization back to the original theme and layout.
