readwriteweb.com — Facebook hasn't won anything yet. They operate in an industry that has already seen the meteoric rise and fall of a number of sites, and Facebook has yet to prove that they can even reach #1 let alone stay there. Further, if MySpace releases an API in the next six months, Facebook's platform advantage could be greatly minimized.

that's precisely my point. those of you in college now and were recently will be in facebook and continue. but in 6 months, a year, whatever, some network will come along that makes the crop of high-schoolers at the time not want to switch to facebook. and the majority of people on facebook won't switch b/c all their freinds are on facebook. it's just evolution of a trend, nothing more.

But you can. It's called "Notes". You can either make entries there or have them imported via RSS/Atom as JonAce said.

I like the control of My-space - your page can really be what ever you want - I'm out of college, and face-book seems claustrophobic to me -- My-space has tons of Music,Movies ,Videos, - you can "friend" people with out all the stupid rigmarole that face-book requires- I hate the intrusiveness of Face-book, too personal!!-- I feel like they are gathering my info for some sinister purpose! - my-space is the standby - it needs updated- new apps like "status/mood" are starting to appear - competing with face-book, twitter, and others currently is going to cause change- I'd say people really don't want to leave my-space - they try other things but come back to m-space b/c it's more "homey" -- My-space should offer more built in options vs. having to go to janky sites to find codes for site functions. That's where face-book is leading. My-space needs to improve their blog ( like word-press) - Face book doesn't even have one! - I don't like the automatic actions monitoring on face-book either- plus it's confusing in the interface- it's all one color - you can't tell how to " make it work" - it's more "college" but not worth the hype - My-space is still King and as long as they keep improving and increasing functionality they'll be around for a while. More innovation is needed in all the social sites.. still not enough going on - and smart stand alone sites like Twitter need to merge with bigger sites. etc.. myspace.com/benphen

I'll have to agree here. I haven't seen one useful third party app and instead i've been spammed continuously by requests to add applications or try to use the abysmally bad Last.fmMOG music tracker garbage utilities they have (Which would really be the only things of interest to me, and even they suck). I wouldn't maybe say it killed itself but the request spam for applications is through the roof and is Facebook's weak spot.

I never knew some one could be so stupid. Just because YOU have a MySpace doesn't mean everyone else has one. Out of all my friends only ONE has a MySpace account. ALL my friends have a FaceBook account. I'm not saying it dominates the market without any evidence, nor that all my friends use it. The functionality of a site can boost the popularity. The reason for MySpace's huge launch is because no one (large majority) had never seen something like this. The potential to advertise them selves or common group. Until MySpace does a overhaul, it is stuck in the past.
