Should be something that can be implemented through a firmware update. Just like Copy/Paste.We don't really need new hardware for picture text. Video yes because currently we can't shoot video.

Over here when you upgrade your phone you normally sign a contract extension. Assuming you bought an 18 month contract on the original iphone day release - you would have updated around June/July and wont be due another update for another 6 months. The way technology moves 1 every 6 months seems about right. some of my mates who don't really know much about phones (just that they want the best ones) are snubbing the iphone because of the camara which at the time of release wasn't such an issue but already 6 months down the line people are comparing 8mp to 2mp.

@senfo: those rumors that the iPhone 'might' be coming to Verizon are to keep you from jumping ship over to AT&T. Probably even started by Verizon PR or worse.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about releasing new hardware almost every year, I feel many of the previous interpretations are wrong. Apple doesn't not just release a product for people who have just bought the version previous to it. For the most part those people's hardwares are going to be up to date and work fine still for a while. Now the reason for a release every year is to make more people drawn to it and gain more market share and also its for those current users who's hardware is getting to that old almost not usable stage.

I believe since sprint came out with a 4G plan to make the iphone look outdated, I think that Apple will probably come out with the same 4G iphone or maybe start with a 4GS iphone. It only seems logical. Apple also usually makes a new model for the iphone at least once a year and came out with the 3GS without a beat in the same year as the 3G. I just want to find out if Apple is planning on hurrying this up so I can update my phone while I still have an upgrade on my plan... lol
