engadget.com — While the Blu-ray camp is busy claiming victory, recently HD DVD supporters seem to be circling the wagons around an old friend, the -- 'til now -- unused 3X DVD technology. HD DVD has always claimed it holds a price advantage over Blu-ray, by way of offering low cost upgrades for existing DVD manufacturing processes.

@aristotle0dudeAre you kidding me? I have seen Blu-ray players for 300-400 dollars which have excellent picture quality. I was at a circuit city where they had a movie in a ps3, and the same movie in the blu-ray player i was going to get and you could see a difference. Also, I was one of the idiots who got a PS2 after its release (waited 9 hours in line) and a few months later got to enjoy the ps2 eating my games.@dieselstationThe PS3 is a gaming system, if it was a multimedia system then i could rip my movies onto it, watch tv with it, and do the many other things my MythTV system can do. Its a gaming system where they, at the last minute, decided it could do 20 other things. If the PS3 is so awesome, why is there always a huge stack of them at the store? There so awesome that nobody is buying them where i live, walmart manager admitted that he was going to have to send some of them to the storage location if they dont sell soon.

"If the PS3 is so awesome, why is there always a huge stack of them at the store?"Hmm... could it have something to do with the current lack of games or perhaps the 500-600 dollar price making it just outside the buying range of most gamers? nah, must be because the console itself sucks.

and they were unable to bring it to the market.

"Oh by the way Lord of the Rings is Touchtone."Lord of the Rings is New Line, which is a Warner subsidiary, ding dong.

I didn't expect that to be a popular comment. I am very aware of the industry standards. I think Symph0ny got the point. If we are going to set a standard for future HD home video content, lets not set the bar low. 720p is cool for 2007, but come 2017, it will be regarded as something less than HD. Super-EDTV was meant as a joke. 1080p is over twice the resolution on 720p.

Can someone shut bllambert the f**k up. Im getting a migraine reading his stupid s**t. The HD standards were set like 20 years you dim-wit stop making s**t up. I hope to God HD-DVD wins or both formats fail so I dont have to listen to ps3 fanboys say the same stupid s**t over and over

dosterm:Both formats have porn. The story you read was just one irate company who couldn't get DADC to replicate their discs. Sony's DADC company has refused to replicate BluRay porn. But they never replicated DVD porn either, and that didn't stop DVD from having lots of porn.Vivid is releasing their titles in March on both formats.

I have Full Metal Jacket on BluRay.Save your money. Most of the movie is shot in film that is so grainy you can barely see the difference between BluRay and DVD.I stand behind what I said. See the future releases list. It's 2/3rds explosion movies. Yes, The Departed just came out on both formats, but it's the exception, not the rule.
