planetblur.org— Timon on the AWN forums has posted a preview of a still *work in progress* plug-in for Avant Windows Navigator that gives Linux users similar features to Stacks from the upcoming OS X release.

still doesnt explain how stacks were shown at WWDC and the AWN patch has only came out?Personally I'm still waiting on the patent smackdown being handed to AWN, I really like AWN don't get me wrong... but Apple are known for shutting down projects that try too hard to be OS X like
In practice... submenus have been around for ages... start menu anyone? It appears to me that the main big deal is that they are finally being added to mac's dock thing. Although yes, I notice that it is a little beefier in that it includes thumbnails and that is an improvement on what has been done before.Of coursse.. copying is a strong word. adding a more graphical/pictorial thing to the start/dock menus of our OS's should be considered more as evolution rather than being considered some singular great idea.
Newsflash: Everyone copies from each other.I don't know why Mac users think OSX is so unique, maybe because Jobs has them so easily convinced and devoted a whole segment to it in his presentation of how Vista copied from OSX. Maybe he should've also shown how Spaces was ripped off from Linux, how the Time Machine feature is a fancy GUI for System Restore, and how the new Leopard dock is a Looking Glass dock given an Apple makeover. People on all sides would just shut up and stop accusing each other of copying stuff because guess what, whatever your OS of choice is - it has copied something from the other.
too bad about the title. The angle shouldn't have been "Oh, snap! Linux gets stacks before OS X! Isn't that just SO IRONIC??" (and no, it's not) but more like "OS X-style stacks feature available now to Linux developers." That would be accurate and, in my opinion, still make Linux look good by comparison.Stop with the editorializing in the titles!
"Linux didn't get anything yet, it's a preview"Um..... the stack patch for AWN is available for download.New title: "Average Linux user can use stacks before average Mac user"
Wrong, linux users who are intimately familiar with linux and can apply patches can get it. Not your every day desktop user. Its basically the same kind of user who would install Leopard.
Again, read the definition of Irony... it isnt Ironic that they are lying.Irony - A shipboard scene of reconciliation and hope for an estranged couple ends with the camera pulling back to reveal a life preserver stenciled “RMS Titanic.”Rock trio ZZ Top are famously associated with the chest-length beards of guitarist Billy Gibbons and bassist Dusty Hill. The group's drummer, who only has a mustache, happens to be named Frank Beard.A person who can't remember the name of the disorder marked by difficulty recalling words.
