cnn.com— The Iraq war has cost hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars, with no end in sight. This clip on CNN explains it all. Imagine if that money had been spent on education or health care.

This war would be over (and money saved if that is your big concern) and our soldiers on the way home if it were not for the opposition in this country. The major enemy is within our own country as evidenced by those who place political advantage above what is good for the country. Bashing the President and our Country's efforts in Iraq when our troops are still there is disgraceful and is the major reason why this war is longer and more expensive in lives and in dollars. Why do so many take the side of our real enemy who has vowed to kill everyone who does not convert to their version of Islam? They will not abandon their mission if we leave Iraq. So if we go along with the Dems and cut and run, then what is the Dem policy for national defense? Zippo!! Do we just have to talk nice to Iran and they will leave us alone? Not likely. Iran is fighting this war by supporting the insurgents. Oil revenue is what fuels Iran's efforts and makes them dangerous to us. If we leave Iraq now, Iran will take over the region and control the oil. Anyone doubt this or do you really trust that mad man from Iran? Their stated goals are to remove all non-believers from the region...Israel first...poof! Then, they will convert the rest of the world to Islam and kill those who do not convert. How nice of them to really care about our eternal salvation.Which is why Iraq is so important. Yes we could have spent the billions on more productive ventures. But, we can't spend it if we are dead. We fix it over there now, or we fix it here and over there later at much greater cost. We did not pick this fight. Don't forget, we were attacked first...not just on 9/11 but in the decades before 9/11 too. Or, on second though, maybe terrorism will just stop now because we have such nice Democrats in power. Maybe we can get them all to be sworn into office with their hand on the Koran.
"$357,000,000,000 / 130,000,000 taxpayer = $2746 per taxpayer"Don't forget that this is all borrowed money, not money the govt. currently has. The republicans have been using your credit card for 6 years now ( pretending that there was no reason to tax you for this *now*) and this is just one of the line items on the bill. By the time you're done paying the interest, it'll be a lot more.
I love when people talk about how evil Saddam was and leave out how while he was being that evil assh**e, he was our buddy and we even supplied him some of the materials to work with. What's even more funny is that you can't even blame it on a different political faction or party. As that now infamous photo with Rummy shaking his hand shows, the VERY SAME people that declared war against him, were the VERY SAME people that liked him 20 years ago. Rummy, the Bush family, Cheney, etc.If you can compare it to anything, the mafia is probably close. You have these factions of criminals fighting each other and stabbing each other in the back, while rationalizing to their citizens (us) how bad the other person is when things go sour or they don't need them anymore.
It is outrageous, especially knowing that there's a significant percentage of Americans who agree with the spending of lives, futures, morality and money! I think that it is timely, with his birthday approaching, to quote a portion of Martin Luther King's speech entitled "Beyond Vietnam" in which he states: "... A nation which continues, year after year, to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death." Are we there yet? Imagine the social improvement, farming cooperatives, libraries, schools, affordable medical care for all, even the admiration rather than disdain of the world shifting towards the U.S.A., should that $357 billion be spent on programs such as these.
Republicans dont like Bush policy anymore either , no one wanted Iraq to end in fiasco. Pro-invasion or not , we all in US face a failed state that will come back to haunt us. We managed to further mess up a really bad region. Why wouldnt Sunnis be worried about Iraq? why wouldnt Iran worry about s**tes ? Now I actually hope Bush does something good out of the mess he created. i have no doubt Bush will fail yet again. but what else to do but hope
