americanprogress.org — The implication has always been that U.S. military forces just need to hold on a little while longer for things to get better. They've been holding on a little while longer for more than four years—longer than it took the United States to win World War II.

Most people have the feeling that we've been strung along for more than 4 1/2 years by many promises of progress in "6 to 12 months." But I was blown away scrolling through this time line how many times we've heard the same promises over and over again. It's clear we'll never leave Iraq as long as Bush and the Republicans are in power. And given the Democrats' recent track record, I now doubt they will have the balls to get us out either.

"Friedman had been making such six-month predictions for a period of two and a half years, on at least fourteen different occasions, starting with a column in the November 30, 2003 edition of The New York Times, in which he stated: "The next six months in Iraq—which will determine the prospects for democracy-building there—are the most important six months in U.S. foreign policy in a long, long time."<a class="user" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedman_%28unit%29">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedman_%28unit%29</a>

Such an amazing piece. This should be part of every school history lesson to learn to catch a lie or a BS when they read or hear it.
