jpost.com — Leviathan Energy's Daniel Farb claims to have invented the world's most efficient wind turbine. "The cut-in speed [on the Wind Lotus wind turbine] was two meters per second. The equivalent turbines on the market start at three meters per second.

'Claims'. I wish the media would stop reporting 'claims' and only report actual facts. I'd love it if he managed to make a more efficient turbine, but I won't believe it until he has built it and independent studies have confirmed that it works as he thinks.

Vertical wind turbines cannot by capture as much energy as horizontal wind turbines. It's physically impossible. At best the most efficient vertical can capture 50% of what a horizontal turbine can. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_turbine VAWT's are good for some applications and can be cost effective, but they are not the most efficient type.

"I've had great help, wonderful engineers. We've assembled a wonderful team of Anglo olim and native Israelis."What do these qualities have to do with engineering talent?

But there is a picture of the turbine itself, sort of. It sort of looks like a pair of vertical axis wind turbines, but perhaps he's done something differently. Assuming I'm right, you can read about them at --http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_turbine#Vertical ...It's likely that whatever changes he's made are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, so what's likely is that he's just refined the design somewhat to make it less draggy, perhaps only at lower speeds. Who knows? More details would be nice.
