wi-fiplanet.com— A nice introduction to Kismet. Kismet can sniff for available wireless networks, troubleshoot wireless networks, optimize signal strength for access points and clients, and detect network intrusions.

Kismet sounds pretty cool, but it's not available for Windows. It's ability to passively sniff network traffic to identify hidden SSIDs is nifty, but I have to assume if there's no traffic on the wireless network, Kismet wouldn't know it was there.http://bsalert.com/
dude i just battled with a wpc11 linksys card on vectorlinux (based on slack) using the orinoco_cs drivers. Anyways, i can get version numbers if you need, just give me a shout. As for kismet, i plan on trying it out. I havent got past using iwspy and the wireless tools that came with VL. Netstumbler is good for windows, but doesnt pick up all ap's.

Kismet is by far the best wireless scanner out there. Yes, i know its for linux only, but it still rocks. It has a defualt command line interface, or a nice GTK interface (gKismet).Kismet can be used in conjution with gpsmap to create visual maps of the AP's and thier valued range.I have even encorperated them into google maps to get visuals of the neighborhood and terrain.Map:http://www.frasunek.com/sources/security/kismet/map_52.236277_21.042572_30000_1280_1024.pngAuditor (backtrack):http://www.remote-exploit.orgIt also collects the weak packets for use in WEP cracking. Although its not the most efficient.I'm excited to see and try out the new support thats being developed for Broadcom chipsets. My internal wireless has mad range.

Actually, it isn't a port of Kismet, just a play off of the name. It is a Mac alternative, however.

Kismet wasn't too keen on my MS card, so I was never able to use it. Good program though. I hardly knew what I was doing, and I managed to install it.
