revolution.ign.com— Revolution gets an official name. Not much info on this yet, but I for one think that Revolution was a perfectly good name for the system.

Actually, it'll be more along the lines of this:Kid: Je veux un Wii!Owner: Vous voulez oui ?Kid: Non, un WII. C'est W-I-I ?crit. C'est un produit de Nintendo.Owner: Naturellement, comme c'est ridicule ? moi. Je vous obtiendrai un Wii tout de suite. Travaillant dans un magasin ?lectronique, je devrais savoir de ce que vous parliez de toute fa?on.
"The name Revolution is not a good name for a console that wants to take over the market. You like it because you're used to it. None of you morons are in any way capable of judging the merits or marketability of a name.Wii is nothing short of brilliant. All you losers who are whining about it are just proving how powerful and upsetting the name is. NINTENDO WANTS YOU TO TALK ABOUT IT. AND YOU ARE ALL PLAYING INTO THEIR PLAN. Now you will have no choice but to try the console. Try, and you may like. Like, and you may buy.Revolition is not pronouncable in Japan. End of story. "Revo" makes no sense and is not visually interesting or iconic. Wii is more than a word: it's a symbol. Look at it.If you have a hard time coping with the name, I got news for you, buddy: it isn't going anywhere. You'll grow to accept it.Long live Wii." I agree completely that Wii is a better name than Revolution if it is going to appeal to a worldwide market. However, I also think that if people want to, they should be able to pretend it's still called Revolution (look at my previous comment), since it's apparent that a lot of Western people don't like the name."I completely agree with you. Besides which, Revolution was announced from the beginning as a CODE NAME. Code names are never the name that will be used for production. Having said that, everybody who is bitching about the name change should have expected that it was coming from the beginning and then you wouldn't be so worried about it." Not necessarily. I'm pretty sure (not 100% sure, so don't get mad at me if I'm wrong.) that Nintendo DS was originally just the code name. Also, most people expected the system to keep the name Revolution because it's being released soon and also because the DS kept its code name (I think).
I dont have a problem with its name. It is not that bad, and its smart that they are trying to keep the name simple. The system looks like its gonna be sweet, and im glad its got wifi built in. the controller seems like it could make gaming alot of fun. but judging from nintendo's past, it could be a disaster. like the virtual boy. the ds didnt turn out so great as i thought it would either. its fun, but i use it most as an alarm clock. but i think this will pull through, im definately gonna pre-order mine asap.
i take this back now. While I don't agree with the name, I will be getting this system over the PS3 and 360. Sorry SONY you were once great.I spoke to soon about the Wii. my money is on Nintendo
I think people have become more accustomed to the "wii" brand now. The name does grow on you and I think it just might be genius. Does a name even need to make sense? Does the name "ipod" make sense? maybe to some. doesn't make much sense to me. Nintendo are going to have a lot of cool slogans in their hands now for advertising.
