Jeremy Allison is a man with a conscience. That's mighty rare these days when it comes to business and corporate politics. Somehow I believe that his new job at Google will end up being a major benefit to everyone concerned. It will likely be a very productive time in his life. I also believe that Novell will eventually find a way to redeem themselves. I hope so anyway. I also believe that Microsoft will eventually decide that it needs an attitude adjustment...maybe they'll send Steve Ballmer packing. One can only hope. When the GPL3 finally comes out, things should get very interesting. I'm looking forward to it. In the meantime, best wishes to Jeremy.
I appreciated Jeremy's calmness and reasoned viewpoint--much more helpful in the discussion about the MS/Novell agreement than much of the uninformed caterwauling I've seen from others of a more 'evil is everywhere' persuasion.
There is no reason for anyone to trust Microsoft's intentions since there is a long list of companies that have "partnered" with them and found out later that they had been "assimilated". Only time will tell if Novell's decision to partner with Microsoft eventually helps, or permanently damages the company. I respect Jeremy's decision to leave but the idea that we should "boycott" Novell is immature and short sited.
