anyone here know about any "localized" search engines? Google used to have a local tab at the front page, now you have to hunt for the damn thing in the "more" sections....why is that? Is it because of advertising? Do you think a more localized search engine/version would benefit the local businesses? Especially the ones not capable of advertising on Google? I guess there are ad firms out there that cater to these people to get them noticed on certain websites....I'm rambling.... I think that would be a good idea.... Have your answers in by midnight....lol.If I'm on to something, and someone wants to partner up............

Also the country specific google.de's and whatnot now deliver more relevant localized results

For any interested, Matt Cutts has a great blog. It's related to but separate from Google and he gives some fascinating inside tips about ethical SEO and what's hot at the Googleplex. It's one of few blogs I subscribe to.http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/

Can we get back to some sort of categorization in our search results? Relying on magical page rankings is ok for navigational searches (ie: I need information from a company or need to get somewhere specific) but not so great for informational searches (ie: actual research on topics where you only know that you need to know more). Categorization would help increase the speed that people can pick their results and improve decisions of relevance when you can link the found resource with a chain of contextual information WITHOUT opening it. As it stands now the page rankings is just a popularity contest at times and too easily compromised if you expect this to be used to research.

Makes perfect sense. Maybe it'll happen sooner than later.
