bit-tech.net — An interesting article that compares the betas of IE7 and FF2 - examining the interface, security, tabbed functions, RSS, search and extensions. Looks like IE7 actually might not suck - do we still need FireFox? Some good screencaps and analysis.

What I got from that article is that Firefox pretty much added nothing new, I don't know if that is really the case.

The key being, 'by default'....meaning, you don't have to go into the options. A small task, but something extra regardless.And the new tab button is handy, whether you prefer ctrl t or not. It just gives people more options.

the search stuff in ff was allready there he didnt do to much coverage on the extensions which i think along with the themes should have been coveredtab x gives the same function as the new beta anywayand countless other extensions makes firefox more featurefullwhile ie7 is just gonna have multiple tool bars from insert search engine here and that ff search bar ripoff

MS spent about $150 million to get IE up to 6.0.You are obviously ignorant of why.Think about this. First, you buy a product: spyglass web browser. You con the developer into an arrangement where you pay then $100,000 up front plus a royalty percent of all sales of the browser. Then you give the browser away for free, paying the developer nothing. Then you spend $150 million to vastly improve the browser.Why spend that money on a product that you give away for free? IN ORDER TO KILL COMPETITION. The reason IE is up to 6.0, without there being a firefox, is because THERE WAS A NETSCAPE. You remember, Microsoft e-mails "polluted java", "cut off netscape's oxygen supply"?Once Netscape was gone, IE6 was left to rot. I gaurantee you that without FF, this would happen again, no matter what MS promises today.

really, I read that that guy who runs the firefox project actually really likes IE7.He said that the reason he started the Firefox project was because MS had quit developing IE and felt that something had to be done.

I speak from experience when i say that people don't install Firefox to feel different or Linux to feel smart. I operate both windows and Linux, and to tell you the truth, if i wanted to appear smart, i wouldn't use Linux. I know much more about Windows than I do about Linux. Using Linux makes me feel like a n00b. But I still use it. Why? Because it's a good product, even better than windows in may ways. I use Firefox because its better than IE. I don't choose these products to feel good about myself; i choose them because they work.
