emailbattles.com— The Internet Explorer 7 team's rallying cry: "Show 'em what we've got." OK. They showed us. And reviewers, in general, aren't exactly jumping up-and-down and spitting nickels.

its still months from being final, give it up already. i could care less if the beta sucks and is full of bugs as long as they use the feedback they are getting from these beta tests to improve the product which they are because Beta 2 is alot better then Beta 1, and Beta 1 was a whole hell of alot better then the Alpha builds.
As long as it brings genuine xhtml, css, transparent pngs, tab support and font smoothing to a wider audience, I'm all for it. Screw the interface and screw the bugs. Frankly, I'm not going to be using it anyway. But if it gives me those design tools, I'm happy. And, to give Microsoft some credit, beta really does mean beta around there, and this article does seem heavily biased.
Well, then they don't get to control/own the internet. What kind of a question is that? And Microsoft would never endorse an open source product, anyway.
when is microsoft going to come out publicly and admit that IE is completely crap. Everything about it sucks. I am a web designer and IE has always created trouble for me when comes to important things like CSS. Microsoft copied code from FireFox to use in IE7, but man, IE still is filled with crap and bugs. do you know why, because microsoft programmers can't CODE, sorry to offend any Microsoft emploees, but i am sorry to say that that is the truth.
For all of you crying about the beta status, beta 2 isn't even out yet! It's a beta 2 *PREVIEW* (ie a pre-beta). I believe the first preview was released becuase of the leaked build. The nomenclature's a bit confusing, but Microsoft has acknowledged it and said they'll label their pre-release products more clearly next time.(pre-)beta reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt IMO.
I've been using Beta 1 for awhile, but only periodically. I still prefer Firefox (especially because of the Adblock extention). I see IE7 as Microsofts attempt to step up to Firefox, but they have a lot of work ahead of them. My wife hates how difficult it is to get to favorites and found the icons and UI very UNintuitive. I agree with her, but not quite as strongly.Incidentaly I'm adding this comment with IE7b1 and all the 'reply' links are below the bottom of the page. In otherwords the page is twice as long as it should be and all the replys are disassocitated from their comments rendering them worthless. Back to Firefox for me!
True, but you have to realize they are doing stupid things. I had beta 1, I had beta 2 preview, then I have the officially released beta 2 and it's just gotten worse! I tried to switch back to beta 2 preview, but it won't let me anymore, I am stuck with the crappy beta 2 that degressed. For example, when you hit CTRL-TAB in beta two it doesn't cycle through the tabs from left to right in any kind of order, it cycles through them in seemingly random order, and if you quit pressing CTRL-TAB for more than 5 seconds, it makes you start over from the beginning of the cycle. Beta 1 and beta 2 preview didn't do that. Also, on the right side of the tabs thing there is a toolbar that can't be moved or removed anymore and is really annoying. Also, if you have several tabs up, if they go off the screen, instead of following the tab you're on like the previous versions, you are simply off-screen until you manually click the double arrows on the last tab to move over to view the others. REALLY ANNOYING! There are other minor issues as well, but I found that I could fix most of those with the "OPTIONS" but at least those three didn't have an option...I LOVED IE Beta 2 preview, but the official public beta 2 REALLY SUCKS! I find myself going back to firefox more often now whereas I used to be addicted to the new IE7 betas...I was becoming a fan of IE again...it WAS a good program till they officially released it and made stupid changes that you can't fix with options...
As far as I can see from the reviews and your comments ie7 is a hectic copy of features found in browsers like firefox. Now, having ms chasing after others is intriguing, isn't it ? :) The issue is how WE accept ms products and *not* how they evolve. Do you remember windows 95 ? It was the crapiest, buggiest, most horrible piece of os software ever. Everyone was complaining about it. WE were complaining. WE even made jokes out of it. And there were more and more stupid patches and updates to come all the way to XP. But we all use XP, don't we ? Same as now, same as always. Do people get used to ms products because they are masochists ? Why perfect products rarely make it ? The human nature... :8(that said, I expect ie7 to -finally- become a star regardless of its shortcomings -if any.)
agreed. going the same way, ms is not chasin after other browsers. its just holding tight to the existing user base. now if you ever had all the (promised) features of IE7, would you care to move to firefox or opera? ha, for me, i'd say "no pain". so users of win xp (or the bloated vista) will rather hang on to traditional IE. think about that!! over 80% of user base will still belong to msie!! so its only the others who will be after ms, atleast upto 2010.regarding the beta, i have nothing more to say, but looks like ms is only inducting the features in opera and firefox. the beta is just to make sure the browser works (for sometime) with all these features. as with all other ms products, i am expecting not more than an interface revamp with ie7 release 1. features?? first get over the bugs, man!beta still means "albeit" at ms. ha ha...
now is this another marketing ploy of ms? releasing ie7 beta by beta? now what wud be the motive of people with cartloads of $$$ to arouse their competitors? is m$ just buying time, or announcing people that it is not asleep while daydreaming?
