wired.com — First, we all had mild Asperger's. Now, Internet addiction disorder? Give a geek a break. In the March issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry, Jerald Block proposed that Web abuse be added to his field's bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Yay! Now free and unrestricted internet access can be added to the war on drugs and be controlled and monitored!

It's no one's business about your computing habits. The internet is not a "thing" anyway, it's a network that extends your mind, giving you infinite knowledge. So this is sort of like saying "you're addicted to books, stop learning."Mental disorder my foot. There are so many fake "mental disorders" now it's scary. ADD, "Restless Leg Syndrome," etc. The pharmaceutical companies just want to put everyone on prescription medication. If you're not an average sheep, then chances are you'll be diagnosed with ADD in school. If you're more intelligent than the average zombie American, you'll have problems in schools. If you could read, would you pay much attention while they're trying to teach you the alphabet? And it's normal for 4-8 year olds to be hyper, is it not? (I had two younger brothers, believe me...) The school system just doesn't want to deal with it.And If you want to complain about "obsessive internet usage," I'm going to have to point-out your addiction to coffee, your addiction to caffeine-filled soft drinks, your addiction to your cellphone, your addiction to your TV, your addiction to SUVs, etc.

Just because someone enjoys something, it doesn't mean they're addicted to it. Enjoyment doesn't become addiction until it overshadows everything else in the person's life.

Shows how far the dangerous cult of psychiatry will go in inventing imaginary disorders - then selling expensive "cures".

Really? Sounds a lot like the cult of Scientology to me...Expensive "auditing" to remove imaginary "body thetans" !!??? That's real science for you.
