youtube.com— Interference from my treo 680 (gsm, cingular) causes my ipod (5G, 30gb) volume to flip out. bluetooth also causes problems.

The cause is quite simple, and is actually related to why you generally shouldn't put metal into microwaves. You see, all radio waves and microwaves are electromagnetic radiation, which means they contain oscillating electric and magnetic field components. Of course, when you've got an electric field of any kind, and an oscillating magnetic field, you generated current. In a microwave, the fields induce the motion of pseudo-polar water molecules which heats them and the food up. If you were to put metal in the microwave you would get an electrical current, which heats up the metal and, if the metal is touching anything flammable, could ignite something. Phones and WiFi use the same or very similar frequencies as a microwave, and so generate electrical currents much the same, but because of their significantly weaker output, it's not noticeable in everyday situations. However, the iPod and stereo speakers both amplify their electrical signals; the iPod does it to detect the very minor capacitance changes in the click wheel, and likely also in the buttons, while speakers do it to provide loud music. The very minor electrical currents induced by the microwave signals are also amplified, and so you hear them in the speakers or see its affects in your iPod.
Maybe this interference is why they are having problems making the iPhone(or whatever it's called...you know what I mean) ?? Having that touch sensitive click wheel in the same case as the GSM circuitry has got to be a pain to work around.
I'm probably going to be dugg down by the iPod fanboys, but it is nice to be able to use a Zune near a GSM phone. Once the Zune is fully hacked, it will be awesome to send songs between a Treo with wifi and the Zune.*hopes hacks (or maybe firmware updates?) come soon*

No doubt the Interference is coming from the Pink iPod case.

I haven't had any problems with Windows since Win98 about 8 years ago. I'm sorry to hear that for you.

Same here - iPod 5G + Motorola GSM phone, whenever there is a communication between phone and cell network volume jumps.
