"Hey women, if someone tries to rape you, heaven forbid you defend yourself with a gun, maybe you should try FLEEing first,,,""Hey, Some policeman did something BAD...that means we shouldn't have police men who abuse power!""hey, I saw a crazy person do something BAD with a gun...that means, NOBODY should have guns. that'd solve the problem!"Now, see where this thinking gets you?NORMAL people CAN and SHOULD be allowed guns, AND the ability under the law to defend themselves in their HOMES if they feel threatened.NORMAL citizens who follow the law, are already responsible enough to own a car(which COULD potentially be used to run down kids) access to the internet (where they COULD always download child pornography) and they can also buy drugs (which they COULD intentionally overdose on)Do these things happen? yes. But are these NORMAL law following citizens? I doubt it. Should We take cars away because some fool intentionally ran people down? No, to do that would be to punish the whole country for one idiot's crime.There are bad cops out there, who take bribes and hurt innocent people. does that mean we should not have any cops? NO, to do that would be forcing the rest of the nation to go without much needed protection because some idiot abused the system. The system gets abused all the time. welfare gets abused, but it's a noble cause.you don't take it away.the same thing goes for the internet.prescription drugs.doctors.school teachers.government officials.public parks.etc.Anything can be abused, but you don't take away something once it is, you try and make it safer, sure. but once you start making the innocent pay for the criminal's crime...If a man tries and rape me, you can bet I'll do my best to break his fingers. Should I get an assault charge?If someone is in my home,uninvited,unknown,at night, you can bet I'll do my best to defend myself.Even if it potentially means using a gun. should I get a murder charge?(and pay special attention to the "in my home, at night, unknown, uninvited"...that is NOT some kid who climbed over my fence looking for his cat, Muffin)Normal people know the difference.I can admire people who want the world to be murder free, but removing guns from honest people's hands won't work. Because even if you could magically remove every gun off the face of the Earth at once, guess what would happen? People would be getting stabbed to death instead. Then you now have knives instead of guns. Then crowbars or something.(maybe we should ban Gordon Freeman, then? or how about all video games? don't THEY cause violence???)
