nytimes.com — A Florida woman, Alise Smith, 27, has sued Giants receiver Plaxico Burress for a car crash last May in Tamarac, Fla. The lawsuit, filed on Dec. 9 in Broward County, said Burress’s car collided with the rear of her vehicle.

Driving without insurance =/= a felony.Keeping a gun for self protection isn't even a crime in a lot of states. Considering the fact that NFL players have history of being robbed and killed, it's not unreasonable for him to think he needs that sort of protection. He may very well have been faced with the good chance that he'd be robbed and/or killed like Sean Taylor or that DB over in Denver, or carrying a sidearm.Here in Oklahoma, we've had conceal and carry permits for years now. Just about anyone (non-felons, non-sex offenders, non-crazy people) can take a class, pay a fee, and be allowed to carry a concealed weapon. It's a very popular program and I have friends who have probably had their lives (or at least property) saved because they were carrying a gun. At any rate, on the gun charge, I'd be inclined to give Burress a pass, and I'm someone who generally has respect for the law. With this stupid scheme though, only the criminals will be armed... and NYPD... that shouldn't make you feel safe.
