consumerist.com — An anonymous reader said a Best Buy manager refused to replace his broken laptop and threw him out of the store twice when he tried to argue. The reader had even gone so far as to purchase an $80 extended warranty.

If your world is so f**king miserable that you derive joy from pissing on others, there are two ways out: an hero, or do something about it. Trying to make others feel inadequate results only in making yourself look like a d**kh**d, and on this measure you have achieved a significant victory today. Some personal advice to anyone considering a laptop... go to Best Buy and take a look at the laptop. Toy with its features, use the keyboard and check it for comfort. Look at the screen from multiple angles, check the placement of the various connections, etc. When you have done this, GO HOME. Surf the 'net and price compare. If BB offers a competitive price when compared to amazon, newegg, and tiger direct, then feel free to make a rational decision based on the knowledge that you will have a far easier time getting an exchange or RMA from newegg or amazon than BB.

@Vulphaestion - Regardless of what the 'policies' are of those companies, the law is pretty specific as I pointed out to lpcustom. And when you want to run a business in a competitive market, where return custom is the most important aspect of business, the customer is damned well right. Otherwise, you can pretty much guarantee a painful death for your company (there are hundreds of examples of companies dying due to this).

Know this, the people that work for Geek Squad are not computer professionals. They are wannabe idiots earning minimum wage at a retail store. ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS. Any real expert would be working in a real high-paying tech job far away from idiots like these. In fact, if you approach any situation at Best Buy expecting people dumber than a wet box of rocks, you'll be better able to handle such situations. The bonus is being pleasantly surprised at a positive outcome, or possibly dealing with someone with some actual real knowledge.NEVER buy store extended warranties. Stick with the manufacturer extended warranties, if offered. If you did buy a store extended warranty, then READ IT before (signing preferably and) before you walk in with the item. Be an expert on the document. Think ahead of time about the "moron factor". If the item was sold with Windows installed and you have Linux on it, then shut up and install Windows back on it. Next time shrink the Windows partition and install Linux, don't remove Windows. Finally, this is the twenty-first century, have a recorder in your shirt pocket running the entire length of the visit. Make sure you introduce yourself and ask the clerk/manager their name so they say it. Be kind and courteous, and let them be the jerk. You don't have to inform them you are recording as they have already informed you when you entered the store that security surveillance is in operation. That notice goes both ways. Only reveal that when making a complaint to a higher authority outside of the store. The best way to get upper management is to simply play it for them over the phone. This removes any excuses or so-called "misunderstandings" expressed by them. If you do not get a satisfactory response, then NEVER tell them if and where you may be posting it online. Let it become viral before they find out about it. Otherwise, if they did solve the problem to a satisfactory level, then destroy the recording. You were satisfied, no need for you to be the jerk this time.

Stores like Best Buy are the cancer that is going to kill brick-and-mortar electronic stores

You have to watch though. A lot of the stuff on Best Buy's shelves is slightly different from what is on everyone else's shelves, seemingly for that very reason, well, that and no possibility of price matching!
