sectools.org— It has been three years, but Fyodor has asked those of the nmap-hackers mailing list what are the top security tools of 2006, and 3,243 users have voted and the results are in.

In the past, they explicitly stated that nmap would NOT be on the list because they are the ones publishing the list. Probably still the same today.Edit: Yup, after finally being able to read the article using the diggmirror, the notice is right at the top: "No votes for the Nmap Security Scanner were counted because the survey was taken on a Nmap mailing list."
Yea, focusing on user's lack of security education or simply their personal weaknesses in general is almost always an easy way to get into almost anywhere. Even the FBI got penetrated with a booty call. It just takes patience and lots of observation and analysis. I think it's safe to so.. there is no safe network. It appears even encrypted files systems may not be as secure as we thought. SO... the best strategy above all is...don't make enemies and don't use computers to store secrets because they are likely no safer than paper in a locked cabinet. AT least you can't take the entire cabinet out of the building in your pocket after cloning it to cover your tracks.

"It's always good to scan yourself to see where your own holes are..(Wait - that sounded really bad.)...so you can see where your security weaknesses are ;)"netman, you crack me up! :))---http://www.peoplesfurniture.net/

Yeah I thought that sounded funny as well.I think this list is fairly ueless for the average computer user though, its purely for security professionals.(and some of its expensive)This is my list of top security tools.http://darksat.x47.net/index.php?topic=491.0
