@1013 "Okay folks. It's time to stop being a Republican or Democrat just because you Daddy said so!"I couldn't agree more. The people that are more naive than anyone is when they vote along party lines. If the American people would wake up and realize that Americans problems are not being fixed by either party. Quit supporting political parties and start watching how politicians vote. I for one am sick of the phrases "neo-con" and "lib-tards". The whole damn name calling thing is counter-productive to what needs to be done.
They'll find jobs doing something else and benefit from the lower prices that Wal-Mart can offer because of its decreased costs. What did all of the horseshoe makers do when people started driving cars? Technology makes our lives better.
Inflation will turn your 401K's into 404K's (funds not found). I've read some of the books mentioned in the article. They do bring up the disproportion of aging polulation to the young generation and the cost of supporting the old. Yet there's no mention of the fac that the investment has already been collected through taxing of those that are now getting old. We're getting bulls**tted into believing we should save for our retirement, while the person that collects our savings goes and spends it right away. If you save for your old age, your contribution will be long gone in the econimic sense. Your money, your savings won't be there. They'll be taxing your kids to pay for your old ass, and of course it will be a problem. How come more old peopel is worse? Shouldn't that mean that their contribution into their retirement was also greater? Indeed it was, but the truth is, the money got spent, or more properly - it got stolen and yours will be as soon as you put it aside. Guess what? Revolution won't be happening. The money you paid in taxes will be used to police you! The next guy that kicks you in the stomack will be hired with a portion of your own paycheck. That is the most ironic thing about our society. We invest into our own misery. The baby boomers haven't been investing into their retirement. They've been investing into supression of younger generation when it realizes what kind of world it got to inherit. People won't revolt. They don't care. Those that are the cause of our problem are ones that profit from our modern form of slavery. They feed us meaningless ideals of freedom, knowing it's nothing but utopia. We are those kids that woke up slaves on the continent their fore fathers conquered. We are slaves and we have no rights. Only illusions.
One of the things that scares the bejesus out of me is knowing that as a female, I can either plug in the extra time in school and have the backing to afford school, or I can have them while my body's still young and my fertility rate's high. I kind of wish the whole undergrad thing was enough, because I don't want to count on a husband for support, given the way people disparage females who squeeze out a kid and the expect the other gene donor to kick in.
If you fairly attractive, I think the answer is obvious. If popping out a kid is really that important to you, marry a rich dude. The divorce should be able to cover your educational expenses. If its not that important, act upon the future you desire. If you're not able to snag a rich dude, then accept the fact that you won't be able to afford having a kid.
@mre5765You have it all wrong. Reagan's economic era was gangbusters if you were a capitalist. But the family farmer was wiped out as a demographic, union jobs and influence was crushed, and basically, it was the start of the great screw over of the wage slave public. Yeah, there was a period of >3% unemployment, but that was before the invasion of illegal foreign laborers, and even those unemployment numbers were cooked. You don't remember it, because it wasn't exactly "newsworthy" to the media elite owned by the wealthy. The economic recession of the '90's had NOTHING to do with Iraq War I. It was heavily subsidized by Japan and Saudi Arabia. The '90's recession was the aftermath of credit tightening policies Greenspan instituted to address the wild spending spree that was the Reagan era budget deficits. Greenspan thought he could loosen interest rates in time to get an economic uptick before Bush's re-election run. The reason why you remember that one, was because it was white-collar and middle management jobs that were getting axed, they were of the same economic strata as the media industry and thus "newsworthy" enough to be reported, and they were the people who generally vote in elections, which was why Bush I lost.
Not going to college does not mean you will have an unsuccessful career. Those who don't go to college are more likely to be "bums" who won't make it in life no matter what they do. If you have the drive to make it in life you will likely succeed... and that's something I learned back in high school. I actually was given the option between a logic class and an ethics class as part of my arts & sciences requirements. I laughed at the thought of taking either class, but I took the ethics class solely because it fit nicely into my schedule. Turned out great, the teacher looked like the KFC Colonel, complete with cane, and told us tons of wacky stories like the how he had just gotten back surgery and lost all his Oxycontin down the sink (and couldn't get any to replace it!) or how during one of his previous jobs that required he climb giant metal poles for one reason or another he saw some guy on another pole get hit by lightning --- and it took him something like a half hour to climb down. Oh the stories never ended. Honestly, liberal arts classes are jokes no matter what school you go to. I know plenty of people who didn't go to college and are doing just fine. Table games dealers, small business owners, slot attendants, valets, bartenders, the power line worker, a director in a marketing department (high school dropout), various coworkers of mine in this company's IS department. There are other professions that pay anywhere from a living wage to decent including postal carrier, UPS delivery man, construction worker, plumber, HVAC tech, manager at a big box... need I go on? The fact is that you don't need college to do alright, and unless you get one of the more lucrative degrees you better be going to college for the good time. Really ... why do liberal arts majors exist? /ending semi literate rant
@mre5765That is the fault of your electrician and also your local inspector. One person's work doesn't dictate what the whole trade does. I'm sure there are bad workers in your line of work also. Also, you can't compare hanging a light fixture to building 1200amp+ main distribution panels in commercial sites. Anybody can change a light fixture, my wife has (no disrespect to women). Some of you took my comment the wrong way. I was trying to say, "Work hard at something you choose and bottom line, you'll be fine". You can't expect to make enough money to buy a house, have two cars, multiple flat-panel tv's, etc.... as SOON as you start your career/job. Our parents didn't; ask them. -Malhavok
@jschenk: thanks for pointing out what really happens to inflation during a recession. I am sure that people don't know that and just take this garbage article and spoon feed it to their friends. It's a real shame too...
We are only seeing a stage of capitalism where speculation is one of the few really profitable activities left. With so many jobs being outsourced to cheap labor countries we should aim to what is left of proftable activities. Thought is not easy to become profitable as an independent trader it can be done. It's just matter of spending some time at the learning curve...http://www.1-forex.com

I must be one of the lucky ones to get enough experience in the real world, for no one to give a damn about my partial piece of paper.
