An used container like this costs around 1000-1500€ (1300-2000$ - depending on the size), and there is a deposit just 1km away. I'll ask them how much the cut cost.
They are much saver in a tornado because the roof won't be destroyed so easily which often allows for damage of the house after that. I got mostly interested in those container homes because of the hurricanes in Florida.
Remember Lord of War? I really liked the idea of temporary, short term accomodation in what appears to be a discarded, rusted shipping container in a lot. Very cyberpunk.
1. 1,000 euros per 40 foot container.2. The wdith is a problem. We simply added stell beam joinsts between a stack of shipping containers. This makes a double height living area.3. You can also be very creative with heights, so you end up with stair flights on 1.5 meteres between each level. This allows for very nice spaces.4. You can also use one for a great swimming pool. Just line with spray crete and your done.5. Electric, Data and Plumbing is veryt easy to do because you have a dedicated riser between the shipping containers with a ladder inside. This makes putting and and servicing the core trunking super easy.Second ary runs are very easy because you batten out the steel inside with timber or galvanised iron gurts. This is what you do with SIP panel construction too,5. Cold bridging is a very important insulation aspect. Its almost impossible to do this fully.So as per ParHus standard you need to make the whole building air tight. TO achieve this you use platic with sealing tap on the inside before applying the gurts,The key with building with containers is to design to take advanatge of them. If your flexible on the design layout of your house and use it to your advantage i believe it works out to about 35% less than traditional house build with timber framing.Also you can do most of the utility fitting out in a rented warehouse before taking everything on site if you want. But it wont save much.I am an architect and rang a company for 8 years exporting container based homes from Australia to Japan.In japan modularization is huge.
